2023 Spanish Grand Prix Race Report

3 wins in a row for Verstappen and a grand-slam win, a double podium for the new Mercedes W14B, Lando Norris goes from hero to zero and an off day for Aston Martin.

Win Number 40 for Car Number 1

Max Verstappen won in Spain and with it achieved his 40th win in Formula 1 as well as a grand slam weekend as he topped every session this weekend! Verstappen was only really heard of in the race when he received a black and white flag for track limits.

Mercedes are back with the W14B

Mercedes certainly showed their pace in the race as George Russell rose from P12 to P3 and Lewis Hamilton went from P4 to finish P2. This also means that Mercedes overtake Aston Martin in the constructors standings after their average weekend.

Perez close to Podium

Sergio Perez had a fairly quiet race as he slowly but surely made his way up to P4 in the closing laps and was chasing Russell in P3 but ran out of laps and lost the fastest lap to his teammate and race winner Verstappen.

Hero to Zero for Norris

Lando Norris qualified an impressive P3 for the race but at turn 2 he clipped the back of fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton which damaged his front wing. Norris never really recovered and was later lapped by Hamilton on lap 61.

Average for Aston

Fernando Alonso started his home Grand Prix a disappointing P8 and didn't have pace in the first half of the race on the softs tyres. Stroll was running consistently in the top 6 and towards the end of the race, Alonso arrived at the back of his teammate in 6th but told the team he wouldn't attack Stroll.

Decent for Sainz, Disappointing for Leclerc

Carlos Sainz lost his P2 early as the fast charging Lewis Hamilton overtook Sainz on lap 28. Leclerc never found pace in his Ferrari and finished the race in P11 after Yuki Tsunoda's penalty. Carlos Sainz finished his home Grand Prix ahead of the 2 Aston Martin's in P5.

GRAND PRIX RATING: 5/10

MY DRIVER OF THE DAY: GEORGE RUSSELL.
