Aston Martin have announced Fernando Alonso will join the team in 2023 on a multi-year deal.
Fernando Alonso will leave Alpine at the end of the year to join Aston Martin as Sebastian Vettel will be leaving the sport at the end of the season.
According to some sources, Alonso had reportedly left the team because of his poor relationship with Otmar Szafnuer and Alpine however we confident that Alonso would resign with the team for 2023.
Alonso’s statement upon joining the team was, “This Aston Martin team is clearly applying the energy and commitment to win. No one in Formula One today is demonstrating a greater vision and absolute commitment to winning, and that makes it a really exciting opportunity for me."
But what does this mean for Alpine? Well Oscar Piastri is the current reserve driver and 2021 Formula 2 champion. He is the clear favourite for the seat.
Although, Piastri is set to join Williams on a 2 year loan deal but Alpine may cancel this as they may need Piastri now which they didn’t think they needed him.
Williams were also supposed to use Renault engines next year as part of the deal for Piastri but there is no news on this yet and this could now change.
